Phospholipid Bilayer Structure

Plasma Membrane Plasma membrane is also known as cell membrane. Plasma membrane contain 60 to 80% protein. It contain 20 to 40% lipids and little amount of carbohydrates. Plasma membrane is permeable or selective permeable. Fluid model was most accepted as compared to other models. Functions It play important role in transport of material from inside to outside the body by active transport system which means the movements of material from lower to higher direction by using ATP molecules. Through plasma membrane only small molecules like gas, water or glucose molecules move. It also protect from outer toxic material. Composition It is composed of phospholipids layer that contain Cholesterol which make the membrane fluid consistent and Protein.  Phospholipids composed of glycerol, two fatty acids and a phosphate group.
